Mysterious Triangle Over San Diego Revives the “TR-3B” Legend

A viral video appears to show a triangular aircraft climbing over San Diego, reviving claims about the legendary TR-3B. Here is what the footage proves—and what it does not

A striking video posted to X on October 17 shows what appears to be a dark triangular aircraft high above the San Diego area. The object is seen traveling along a steady path while leaving a long white trail behind it.

The account that shared the footage identifies the object as a “Black Manta from the TR-3B series” and suggests it might be a secret American aircraft—possibly even one developed from extraterrestrial technology.

The imagery is dramatic. The identification is far less certain.

What the Video Shows

The approximately one-minute clip depicts a small, dark silhouette with a triangular or flying-wing profile. Behind it is a persistent white trail resembling the condensation trails commonly produced by aircraft operating at altitude.

On-screen text says the witnesses lived near San Diego and noticed the object while taking their dog outside before leaving on vacation. The video later cuts to still images associated with black-triangle UFO stories.

What the post does not provide is equally important.

There is no exact sighting date, precise location, named witness, original unedited file, camera metadata, flight-tracking information or independent recording from another angle. Without those details, the object’s altitude, dimensions and distance from the camera cannot be reliably determined.

The footage also does not display an obviously extraordinary maneuver. The object appears to follow a conventional forward trajectory and produces a visible trail. Nothing in the clip alone demonstrates hovering, instantaneous acceleration, hypersonic movement or another capability beyond known aviation technology.

Why the Shape Looks Familiar

Triangular silhouettes have occupied an unusual place in UFO history for decades. Witnesses have described everything from silent formations of lights to enormous dark objects capable of obscuring the stars.

The name “TR-3B” emerged from that mythology as the alleged designation of a classified American antigravity aircraft. Stories about the craft often describe a triangular platform powered by exotic technology, sometimes said to have been recovered or reverse-engineered from nonhuman vehicles.

No publicly authenticated military document has established that an aircraft called the TR-3B exists.

Real flying-wing aircraft, however, are well documented. The U.S. Air Force’s B-2 Spirit uses a tailless flying-wing design, four conventional jet engines and low-observable materials. From a considerable distance—or through a heavily zoomed camera—such aircraft can produce unfamiliar silhouettes that are difficult to interpret.

That does not prove the San Diego object was a B-2 or any other particular aircraft. It simply demonstrates that a triangular appearance is not, by itself, evidence of exotic propulsion.

San Diego’s Crowded Military Airspace

The location also deserves consideration. San Diego County contains several major military aviation facilities, including Naval Air Station North Island, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and installations supporting aircraft operations at Camp Pendleton.

NAS North Island alone supports helicopters, transport aircraft and carrier aviation. Miramar serves the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and other military units. Unusual aircraft sightings are therefore more plausible in this region than they would be over an area with little aviation activity.

Still, proximity to military facilities cannot identify the object. It only adds an important conventional possibility that must be investigated before invoking a secret antigravity program.

What Officials Have Found

The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office has reported that it has found no empirical evidence that the United States government or private companies have been reverse-engineering extraterrestrial technology.

That conclusion does not mean every UAP report has been explained. Many remain unresolved because investigators lack sufficient data. AARO repeatedly emphasizes that “unidentified” often means the available information is inadequate—not that an object has demonstrated an extraterrestrial origin.

That distinction applies directly to this video.

The Garner Report Assessment

The most defensible conclusion is that the footage shows an unidentified aircraft-like object, but does not establish the existence of a TR-3B, antigravity technology or a reverse-engineered extraterrestrial vehicle.

The long trail, steady flight and recognizable flying-wing profile lean toward a conventional aircraft or digitally altered depiction. However, the limited resolution and missing provenance prevent a confident identification. Claims that the video was created using artificial intelligence have also appeared online, but no verified forensic analysis or original file has been produced to prove that allegation.

Whatever crossed the sky near San Diego, it makes for an intriguing piece of footage. Still, one unusual video is not enough to declare it an exotic craft or secret “TR-3B.”

For now, it is best viewed for what it is: a genuinely interesting sighting that deserves a closer look —Until that evidence surfaces, the object remains mysterious —but the “TR-3B Black Manta” label remains speculation..
