Pilots Report a Mysterious Object

San Diego UFO Incident

New FAA records reveal multiple pilots reported silver objects over San Diego International Airport, while nearby military personnel prepared to engage an unauthorized drone. Was something shot down?

Newly released government records describe silver objects near an airport runway, multiple pilot sightings, and an unverified report that military personnel shot down a drone.

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA — November 4, 2026

What began as an apparent drone sighting near one of California’s busiest airports has developed into a mystery involving multiple airline pilots, law enforcement helicopters, and a nearby military installation.

Newly released Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) records reveal that military personnel at Naval Air Station North Island were reportedly preparing to engage an unauthorized drone during a September 4, 2026, incident that temporarily disrupted operations at San Diego International Airport.

Even more intriguing, an air traffic control recording contains an unverified statement suggesting that a drone may have been shot down.

The documents were obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request by researcher John Greenewald Jr., founder of The Black Vault, and published November 3.

Multiple Pilots Report a Mysterious Object

The incident began shortly before 2 p.m. Pacific time when pilots preparing for departure reported an object near the airport runway.

According to an FAA Mandatory Occurrence Report, at least seven aircraft reported the suspected drone while controllers initially struggled to locate it visually.

Departures were suspended as authorities attempted to determine what was hovering near active flight operations.

Controllers eventually observed a silver-colored object near Taxiway F. In an air traffic control recording, one speaker described its reflective appearance as resembling a silver sphere.

A helicopter from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s ASTREA aviation unit also reportedly observed the object but was unable to capture video.

Additional pilots subsequently reported similar objects near the airport, although FAA records acknowledge that some observations might have involved the same object.

Military Personnel Prepared to Engage

Perhaps the most significant revelation concerns nearby Naval Air Station North Island.

According to the newly released FAA documentation, personnel at the naval installation contacted air traffic controllers to report an unauthorized drone that the military was preparing to engage.

The records do not specify what type of engagement was planned or whether military personnel ultimately took action.

However, a separate air traffic control recording contains a remark suggesting that a drone near North Island had been shot down.

That statement remains unverified.

No publicly confirmed military documentation establishes that an object was destroyed or recovered. The released records also do not establish whether the reported North Island drone was connected to the objects observed near the civilian airport.

Hundreds of Flights Delayed

The September 4 incident created significant disruptions during the busy Labor Day travel period.

Airport authorities initially acknowledged reports of both a drone and a weather balloon operating near the airport.

According to NBC 7 San Diego, approximately 420 flights had experienced delays by 6 p.m., with FAA figures showing average delays of roughly two hours.

Airport operations resumed after authorities issued an all-clear at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The disruption demonstrates how even an unidentified airborne object can trigger substantial aviation safety concerns.

What Was Really in the Sky?

Despite the newly released documentation, several questions remain unanswered.

Who operated the reported objects? Were pilots observing conventional drones, a weather balloon, or multiple unrelated aircraft? And what ultimately happened at Naval Air Station North Island?

The FAA records establish that aviation personnel reported unusual airborne activity and that authorities responded to a potential flight safety threat.

They do not establish extraordinary technology, nonhuman involvement, or a confirmed military shoot down.

Nevertheless, the accounts of multiple aviation witnesses, a silver object, and the reported military response make this incident worthy of continued scrutiny.

The Garner Report — You Be the Judge

An unauthorized drone near a busy airport is a serious matter. But when multiple pilots report unusual objects, a sheriff’s helicopter becomes involved, and military personnel reportedly prepare to engage, the story deserves more than a passing headline.

Were these simply conventional drones operating where they shouldn’t have been? Or do the released FAA records point toward an incident that authorities have yet to fully explain?

The evidence raises questions. The answers remain incomplete.

You be the judge.
